What is Access Wireless?: In Oregon, Access Wireless is a service provider that offers free cell phone service and a smartphone through the state and federal government-funded Lifeline program. This program provides free or discounted phone service to low-income individuals and households
Background: The Oregon Lifeline program currently provides a discount on phone (up to $15.25) or high-speed internet (up to $19.25) service or free wireless service to qualifying households with low incomes through participating service providers listed at www.lifeline.oregon.gov. Access Wireless is the only company in Oregon that offers free Lifeline-supported service, i.e., unlimited voice minutes and 5 GB data. For nearly three years, Access Wireless has had a partial waiver of the Oregon Administrative Rule governing minimum service standards for State of Oregon support. As a result, Access Wireless offers an additional 0.5 GB of data on top of the federal minimum service standard of 4.5 GB for a combined total of 5 GB.
After the waiver expires on June 30, 2025, Access Wireless will only claim federal Lifeline support and offer/provide 1,000 voice minutes and 4.5 GB of data to all customers. Because Access Wireless will cease to offer a free phone, customers who apply on and after July 1, 2025 and are approved as eligible will need to bring or purchase an unlocked, GSM LTE 4G/5G compatible device. Compatibility can be determined at Eligible Phones. Access Wireless will provide a free SIM card.
